New non-profit organization Sailing Heals launched in New York City with its inaugural sail on Thursday, October 6th, along with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and CancerCare. Sailing Heals’ founding sponsor Officine Panerai partnered with the crew and owners of award-winning 1938 yawl BLACK WATCH to take patients and caregivers (along with some members of the media and non-profit organizations), out for a day of healing and respite. BLACK WATCH is the 2011 winner of the North American Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.
As a new non-profit organization, Sailing Heals’ aim is to provide enjoyable sailing and boating experiences to individuals, families, caretakers and staff who may benefit from a congenial, relaxing day on the water. Launched in August 2011 in conjunction with the New England-based Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge regattas and through a program with Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and their affiliate Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Sailing Heals is expanding on a national scale to cities around the U.S. in the coming year.
