NEWPORT — Anyone who has been sailing on Narragansett Bay knows just how therapeutic it can be.
Such was the case Friday for a group of 16 cancer patients, survivors and caregivers that spent the afternoon on the water as part of a program run by Sailing Heals, a nonprofit group that offers days of healing and respite.
The guests, called V.I.P.s, were split up among four yachts and were given lunch provided by Belle’s Cafe at Newport Shipyard. The captains and crews of the yachts donated their time and vessels to accommodate the two-hour sails.
